Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Description
- Position involves working in the Operating Room with a focus on Peripheral Vascular (PV) surgery, including hybrid OR cases.
- Must be available to fill in other specialties such as Neuro, Orthopedics, and Robotics (a plus).
- Unit does not accept first-time travelers.
- Epic electronic health record experience is required.
- Shift: Split 12-hour shift (08:30 AM - 09:00 PM).
- Upon assignment, you may be required to join an "Emergency Team" during emergency events and stay at the facility until the event passes or be part of the relief team.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Louisiana.
- Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year.
- Experience in Vascular Surgery, including Peripheral Vascular surgery and hybrid OR cases.
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system.
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only, RQI accepted. Must be current or renewed prior to start.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only, RQI accepted. Required for critical care-related specialties; confirm with unit if applicable.
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment; confirm with program management if unclear.
Background and Compliance Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
- Education verification of highest level required if no state license.
- Sex offender search required within 30 days of start and updated monthly.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start; must be initiated within 24-48 hours of offer acceptance. Instant screenings not accepted.
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health required.
- Fit mask testing (N95) within one year of start; onsite fit testing available if needed.
- Immunizations and health documents required:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Tdap (if applicable).
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (proof of immunity or vaccination).
- Hepatitis B (proof of immunity or vaccination).
- Varicella (proof of immunity or vaccination).
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season.
Additional Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License or government-issued photo ID (color copy).
- Resume/application required with 7 years employment history and explanation for gaps.
- Skills checklist updated annually.
- Photo for badge: recent, full-color, passport-style photo required within 24 hours of booking.
- Candidates must be comfortable with emergency event assignments as described.
Summary
