Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (PCU) - Columbus, Ohio

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (PCU)
  • Location: Columbus, Ohio
  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM), including weekdays and some weekends, every other weekend off
  • Unit: East Tower 5, 24 beds (9 cardiac stepdown beds, 9 PCU beds, 15 MS beds)
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:3-5
  • Floating: Required to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience (highest requirement)
  • Experience with cardiac care, IV insulin, and glucose tolerance testing (GTT) preferred
  • Skills required: IV start, telemetry, intermediate care
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system required

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Current RN license in Ohio
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, EFM) – verify per unit specifics

Competencies & Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
  • Unit-specific competency exams
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (except certain excluded units)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (must be completed within 1 year of start)
  • Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
  • Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • 2 professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year (or TB questionnaire)
  • Immunizations or positive titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer or vaccine series)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (new travelers cannot start with pending drug screen)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policy
  • Annual fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • License verification and NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit (must be obtained within 1 year of start and renewed every 2 years)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Telemetry experience and skills
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • IV start skills
  • Intermediate care skills
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Floating to other units of similar or lower acuity is expected.
