Job Opportunity: Pharmacist (Travel)
Location: Alexandria, Louisiana
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide pharmacy services including filling drug orders, monitoring patient drug therapies, and offering drug information with compassion, excellence, and efficiency. May have the possibility to convert from temporary to permanent employment.
Work Schedule
- 8-hour shifts
- Start/end times vary, possible shifts include:
- 6:00am - 2:30pm
- 7:00am - 3:30pm
- 8:00am - 4:30pm
- 11:00am - 7:00pm
- 3:00pm - 11:00pm
Responsibilities
Operational Duties
- Prepare and dispense drug orders per physician requests following policies and protocols.
- Interpret and transcribe drug orders accurately into computerized patient medication records.
- Compound and dispense pharmaceuticals including sterile, non-sterile, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition products.
- Issue controlled substances and maintain required records.
- Supervise pharmacy support personnel and verify pharmacy technician activities.
- Provide ambulatory pharmaceutical care services under approved protocols or collaborative agreements, including anticoagulation management and patient education.
Clinical Duties
- Ensure safe, appropriate, and cost-effective drug therapies.
- Monitor drug regimens for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and dosing appropriateness.
- Assist with pharmacokinetics consults and renal drug dosing.
- Detect and report adverse drug reactions promptly.
- Support hospital drug formulary management and promote rational drug therapy.
- Provide clinical consultation and drug information to healthcare staff.
- Educate patients and families on medications.
- Participate in quality improvement, medication use review, antibiotic and opioid stewardship, and shortage management activities.
- Attend interdisciplinary rounds as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Clinical Pharmacist license in Louisiana
- Pharmacy State Licensure
- Minimum of 1 year of Clinical Pharmacist experience, including experience within the last year
- Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) degree
- BLS (Basic Life Support) or ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
Occupational Hazards
- Potential exposure to hazardous substances including chemotherapeutic and cytotoxic drugs.
- Risk of needle sticks or cuts from sharp items.
- Possible musculoskeletal injuries if proper lifting techniques are not used.
- Potential exposure to biologic materials during direct patient care activities.
