Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) (Days)

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work 36-40 hours per week, with overtime billable after 40 hours.
• Patient ratio: 1:1 in a 16-bed unit.
• Average caseload: 35-50 cases per day with turnovers expected in less than 20 minutes.
• Use of specialized equipment including 3 DaVinci robots, Stealth technology for neuro navigation, and Synthes or Stryker for orthopedic trauma.
• Operating rooms: 16 suites, routinely running 12-14 rooms.
• Service lines include Cardiac/PV, Neuro, Orthopedics (primarily trauma), Robotics, Gynecology, Urology, General Surgery, Pediatrics, Transplants, with some ENT and Plastic procedures.
• Preferred to scrub or circulate.
• Weekend on-call coverage from end of shift Friday until 6:30 AM Monday.
• Float across multiple campuses within the region.
• Trauma Level I center with reserved space for trauma cases.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 24 months current/recent operating room experience.
• Experience in circulating and operating room roles.
• Strong and proficient experience in Cardiac, Vascular, and Thoracic cases.
• Basic general surgery circulating experience if not assigned to cardiac cases.
• Scrub experience required, including open heart scrubbing.
• Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system within the last 3 years.
• Trauma Level I and II experience highly preferred.
• Must have completed at least one travel assignment within the past 12 months (no first-time travelers).
• Active Registered Nurse license in Iowa or compact/multistate license.
• Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Skills checklist specific to operating room nursing (scrub/circulating).
• Professional references or performance evaluations within the last 24 months preferred.

Prior Travel Experience

• Must have completed at least one prior travel contract within the last 12 months. Prior travel experience is required.
