Travel Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
- Patient Ratios: 1:5-6
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years in specialty
- First Time Travelers: Accepted
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs
- On-Call: Not required
- Floating: Required to float within scope to different levels of care including Med-Surg, PCU, ICU. Refusal to float may result in contract termination.
- Block Scheduling: To be discussed
- Locals: Not accepted
- License: Must have valid Indiana RN license and required certifications in hand before start (no pending licenses accepted)
- Holiday Work: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
- Shift Options:
- 8 or 10 hour shifts (40 hours/week)
- 3 twelve-hour shifts (36 hours/week)
- 4 twelve-hour shifts (48 hours/week)
- Unit Type: Post Operative care including Urology, Gynecology, GI, Orthopedics, and some pre-op patients
- Environment: High-paced, team-oriented unit; candidates must be able to "hit the ground running"
- Charge Nurse: Charge experience preferred; charge responsibilities may be required with training and resources provided
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- Level 1 Trauma certification required
- Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, Chemotherapy, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification)
Required Documents & Compliance
- Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
- Background checks including 7-year history, national sex offender, and education verification
- State license verification within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months (specific approved respirators required)
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required for flu season
- Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with minimum 100% score
- References: Minimum 2 from recent employment with supervisory titles
- Employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
- Completion of facility-specific orientation, compliance, and safety modules prior to start
Additional Information
- Floating between units is mandatory to meet facility needs
- Refusal to float may lead to contract termination
- Must work major holidays as scheduled
- High-paced, team-oriented environment requiring adaptability and strong clinical skills
- Locals and pending licenses are not accepted for this position
This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs who are flexible, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and willing to float across multiple care levels.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Indiana
- Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience
- Medical Surgical experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
