Registered Nurse (LDRP) - Contract Position
Location: Moses Lake, Washington
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Summary
This role functions both as a caregiver and care manager. As a caregiver, the RN is responsible for a group of patients during a designated timeframe, implementing the Nursing Process. As a care manager, the RN directs and oversees other caregivers through delegation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of patient care outcomes. The RN must understand Patient Care Services operations and make sound judgments when necessary.
Essential Functions
- Perform patient assessments focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive status.
- Implement care according to established procedures, policies, and care plans.
- Identify patient and family learning needs and provide patient teaching.
- Document patient care accurately in electronic or paper records per regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to patient and family rights regardless of background or ability to pay.
- Delegate patient care activities appropriately and supervise assigned coworkers.
- Organize and prioritize care using critical thinking skills.
- Use proper lines of authority and may function as Charge Nurse, including patient assignments, admissions, discharges, transfers, and staff coordination.
- Maintain professional growth through continuing education and professional affiliations.
- Adhere to safety requirements including infection control, equipment use, and emergency procedures.
- Comply with organizational policies and labor agreements.
- Maintain professional conduct and appearance.
Work Environment
- Reports to nursing leadership and works closely with patients, physicians, and other clinicians to ensure optimal patient care and outcomes.
Required Qualifications
Education & Licensure
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
- Current Washington State Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Certifications
- Healthcare Provider (HCP) Level Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or equivalent) within 30 days of hire.
- For Mother Baby Unit (MBU) RNs:
- AAP Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Advanced certification required before end of orientation and renewed every 2 years.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification to be obtained within 6 months of hire and renewed every 2 years.
- STABLE course completion within 6 months of orientation (optional).
- AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring course (or equivalent) required within 3 months of completing L&D training and renewed every 2 years.
- RN-Clinical (RN-C) certification in specialty preferred.
Experience
- Minimum of 1 year RN experience preferred, especially in acute care or specialty nursing departments.
Skills & Competencies
- Ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
- Strong critical thinking and independent problem-solving skills.
- Accountability and adherence to legal and ethical guidelines.
- Crisis management skills.
- Competency in caring for patients across the age continuum.
- Proficiency with department-specific equipment.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, reaching, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 30 lbs and perform manual dexterity tasks for 8-12 hour shifts.
- Physical strength to perform CPR and assist with lifting/pushing up to 300 lbs with help.
- Visual acuity to observe patient data and documentation tools.
- Emotional stability to handle high-stress situations and fast-paced environments.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interaction with healthcare team, patients, and families.
Additional Information
- Up to 24 hours of on-call time may be required during the assignment at no additional cost.
Note: This position may require working in a Mother Baby Unit with specific certifications and training as noted above.
