Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – PCU

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Must be able to pass the telemetry test.
  • Experience in monitoring telemetry patients preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience required.
  • Skills required include IV starts, general nursing skills such as IVs, monitoring, labs, medication administration, and patient education.
  • EPIC electronic health record experience required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and IV certification required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU), with PCU experience within the last year.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system.

Certifications & Competencies

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – AHA Instructor/Provider or RQI acceptable.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – Required for certain units; check unit-specific requirements.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Required for ER and related units.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – Required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, and OB units.
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) – May be required depending on unit.
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%).
  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam – Required prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exams may be required.

Background & Screening Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply).
  • Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
  • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, etc.).
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12).
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year; TB questionnaire required annually.
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titers).
    • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable).
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions reviewed).
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31).
  • COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended.

Additional Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code and hand hygiene policies.
  • Completion of fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate prior to start and annually thereafter.
  • Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment.
  • NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit assignment.

Notes

  • Fingerprinting and background checks are time-sensitive and must be completed prior to or shortly after start date.
  • Candidates with breaks in service longer than 90 days may require updated fingerprinting and background checks.
  • Some certifications and competencies may be renewed on-site if expired.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
