Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR)

Location: Greensboro, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) travel contract. This role requires specialized skills in open heart surgery and related cardiovascular procedures. Candidates must be flexible with scheduling and adhere to strict punctuality and attendance policies.


Schedule

  • 4x10 hour shifts, Days (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM)
  • Call required with a 30-minute response time (non-negotiable)

Required Experience

  • Open heart surgery experience or equivalent cardiovascular OR experience is mandatory
  • Experience with CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft), valve replacements/repairs (Mitral, Tricuspid, Aortic), aortic dissections, pericardial window, thoracotomies, and VATS
  • Experience with ECMO, LVAD, and Impella devices required
  • Scrub experience strongly preferred
  • Robotic surgery experience in chest cases is a plus
  • No first-time travelers accepted unless they have open heart or equivalent experience

Required Certifications & Licenses

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in North Carolina
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • Pass/Fail EKG/Dysrhythmia competency exam (must pass with minimum 82%)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification for certain cardiac units)

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
  • Social Security Card
  • Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in the past 7 years
  • Education verification (Associate’s degree in nursing or higher required)
  • Transcript/Diploma as proof of highest education
  • Fingerprinting completed in North Carolina (if applicable)
  • Health documents including:
    • Physical exam (if applicable)
    • Fit mask test (annual, specific approved N95 respirators)
    • Immunizations: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccine or approved exemption
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 40 days of start
    • TB testing and questionnaire
  • References: 2 supervisory references required from recent assignments (within 12 and 24 months)
  • Employment application/resume with 7-year work history
  • Work history verification for the last 5 years

Additional Requirements

  • Candidate must complete a mandatory questionnaire prior to offer
  • Must acknowledge and comply with facility policies including dress code, floating policy, and contractor equipment acknowledgment
  • Must complete orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • Must complete EPIC or Dysrhythmia/ EKG pass/fail testing (2 attempts allowed)
  • Must submit a professional badge photo meeting strict guidelines (no selfies, solid color background, business casual or uniform attire)

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum of 1 year Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, with CVOR experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience with ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation)
  • Experience with LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device)
  • Experience with Impella device
  • Experience with mitral valve replacement or repair
  • Experience with pericardial window procedures
  • Experience with thoracotomies
  • Experience with VATS (Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery)

Important Notes

  • Prior travel experience is required; no first-time travelers unless experienced in open heart or CVOR
  • Strict zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences
  • Candidate must be flexible with scheduling and able to respond to call within 30 minutes
