Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Overland Park, Kansas

Job Description

  • Position: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Floating: This is a float pool position with no home unit. You will float between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU units and may float to other metro campuses as needed.
  • Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
  • Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
  • On-call: Not required
  • Block schedule accommodation: Not available
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (home must be at least 75 miles away)
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Proficient in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience in stroke care

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Preferred Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Required Skills & Clinical Competencies

  • Work Settings: Med/Surg Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown
  • Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response: Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring
  • Cardiovascular Care: Pre/Post Cardiac Catheterization, management of AFIB
  • Other Clinical Skills: Sepsis management, wound care, alcohol withdrawal (ETOH), suicidal ideation (SI), renal failure, gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB), stroke care, COVID-19 patient care

Preferred Skills

  • Cardiovascular: Sheath removal
  • Gastrointestinal: Feeding tube care and management
  • IV Therapy/Phlebotomy: Accessing ports, blood product administration, central line care/management

Special Requirements

  • Virtual nursing capabilities
  • Proficiency with 12-lead EKG
  • Familiarity with AirVo, Voalte communication system, and Omnicell medication dispensing system

Licensure

  • Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Kansas

Compliance & Background Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
  • Quarterly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels and be valid throughout assignment
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required: Tdap, TB screening, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella (with specific unit exemptions)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
  • Various facility-specific compliance documents and training modules must be completed prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Must complete unit-specific competency exams annually, including dysrhythmia/EKG competency
  • Must complete medication/pharmacology competency exam
  • Must complete required facility orientation and regulatory compliance education modules
  • References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
  • Skills checklist required within 1 year of start, including oncology skills if applicable

This position offers a dynamic float pool role in a progressive care setting with a focus on cardiovascular and neurological patient care. It is ideal for RNs with at least 2 years of experience seeking travel assignments with diverse clinical exposure.
