Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - ICU
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 6 weeks
Unit & Patient Details
- High acuity heart failure unit at a heart transplant center
- Cardiology critical care
- Patient diagnoses include:
- Cardiogenic shock
- Decompensated heart failure
- STEMI/NSTEMI
- Post cardiac arrest
- TAVR
- Pulmonary hypertension
- Pulmonary embolism
Special Procedures & Equipment
- Pericardial drains/windows
- Targeted temperature management
- Pacemaker placement
- Use of specialized equipment:
- PA catheters
- IABP (Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump)
- Impella
- Transvenous pacemakers
- CRRT (Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy)
- EKOS catheters
- CADD pumps (remodulin infusion)
Staffing & Technology
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:2
- Float requirement to ICUs and Step-Down Units (SDUs)
- Epic electronic health record experience required
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
- Minimum of 1 year of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, with ICU experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Additional Requirements & Compliance
- Current/valid Driver’s License or government photo ID (color copy required)
- Background checks including 7-year criminal background, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and sex offender search (must be current and updated as required)
- Education verification of highest level completed (if applicable)
- Physical exam within 12 months indicating good health
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Immunizations and health screenings including:
- Tdap (if applicable)
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccine series)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella (titer, vaccine series, or booster)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Photo for badge (passport-style, recent, color photo)
- Skills checklist and employment application required, including 7 years of employment history and explanation of gaps
Summary
This is a high-acuity cardiac ICU travel nursing opportunity in New Orleans requiring strong critical care skills, experience with advanced cardiac procedures and equipment, and proficiency with Epic. Candidates must hold an active RN license for Louisiana, current ACLS and BLS certifications, and meet comprehensive background and health compliance requirements. The assignment is approximately 6 weeks in length with a 1:2 nurse-to-patient ratio and float responsibilities to other critical care units.
