Job Opportunity: Stepdown Cardiac Nurse

Location: Huntington, West Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts


Unit Description

  • 20-bed step-down unit with all private rooms
  • Patient mix includes pulmonary (pneumonia, COPD, BiPAP/CPAP), cardiac (a-fib, heart failure), neuro (stroke), GI (bleed), and stable post-surgery patients at higher risk of instability
  • Patient ratio typically 4:1, may go up to 5:1 depending on staffing
  • Unit accepts a combination of adult med-surg, telemetry, and step-down patients based on bed availability
  • Critical drips administered include Amiodarone, Esmolol, Insulin, Lasix, Cardizem, and Nitroglycerin

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Cardiac Stepdown nursing
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Additional Information

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
  • Candidates may be required to complete exemption forms for flu and COVID vaccines if applicable
  • Facility-specific confidentiality, attestation, and IT access agreements must be completed prior to start
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) certification may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., ICU)
