Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 14 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for the Operating Room with experience circulating and scrubbing in General, Neuro, Spine, Ortho, Robotics, Urology, Vascular, and Colorectal surgeries. The patient population ranges from adults to geriatrics.
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year of specialty experience in Operating Room nursing (circulate and scrub experience required).
- 1st time travelers are accepted.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
Work Environment & Schedule
- Unit uses Epic and Pyxis systems, with 2 Da Vinci XI Robots.
- Average daily census: 35 patients, 16 rooms.
- Scrub color provided by facility.
- Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum: 7 days.
- Weekend shifts: Average 2-3 per contract period.
- Floating is rare.
- Call requirements: 7-8 calls in a 6-week schedule plus 1 weekend call and 1-2 weekend shifts.
- Holiday work expectations: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it; if 2 holidays, expected to work both; if 3 holidays, expected to work 2.
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day.
Required Certifications & Licenses
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required (AHA or ARC accepted).
- ACLS may be required depending on specialty area (refer to clinical guidelines).
- State Registered Nurse license for Georgia required.
- Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit specifics (verify per assignment).
Compliance & Screening
- Full compliance with credentialing and orientation required to start on time; delays may result in a 2-week pushback.
- Clinical screening will be conducted to determine clinical fit before final approval.
- Background check required within 30 days of start, including education verification.
- Physical exam required within 12 months of start.
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start, no pending results allowed.
- Annual TB questionnaire and negative TB test or chest x-ray required.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended), Flu vaccine or declination.
- Color blindness testing required.
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam and other competency exams may be required.
Additional Requirements
- Skills checklist updated within 12 months.
- Verification of recent work history required (can be pending at start with proof it is in process).
- Two clinical references required.
- Candidates must review and sign facility-specific policies including Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
- Minimum of 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Notes
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for an 8-week assignment).
- Locals accepted at the same rate.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a technologically advanced OR setting with a diverse surgical caseload. Candidates must be prepared for a fast-paced environment with call and holiday work expectations.
