Travel/Contract Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical Oncology
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in Medical Surgical Oncology to provide care for adult to geriatric patients. The role involves managing oncology and hematology diagnoses, oncologic emergencies, and administering chemotherapy precautions and pain management drips.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience in the specialty.
- 1st time travelers are accepted (prior travel experience not required).
Patient Population
- Adults to Geriatrics
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
Skills and Work Setting
- Oncology diagnoses from diagnosis to end-of-life care
- Hematology diagnoses
- DNR/Comfort Care patients
- Oncologic emergencies
- Chemotherapy precautions
- Management of morphine, dilaudid drips, CADD pumps, PCA pumps
- Occasional off-service assignments
- Unit uses Epic electronic health record system
Staffing and Scheduling
- Nurse to patient ratio: 1:6
- Unit has 19 beds with an average daily census of 15
- Weekend shifts every other weekend unless otherwise specified
- Floating within facility and possibly to a nearby location within scope of practice
- No call requirements
- Holiday work expectations:
- If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
- If 2 major holidays fall, expected to work both
- If 3 major holidays fall, expected to work 2 of them
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day
Orientation and Compliance
- Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum of 7 days
- Full compliance with onboarding requirements required to start on time; delays may result in a 2-week pushback
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
- Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Medical-Surgical nursing experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Competency Exams (Aya requirements)
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam
- Color blind testing (with alternative assessment if needed)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (if applicable to unit)
- General competency exam
Additional Notes
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Floating may include a nearby facility within scope of practice
- Locals accepted at the same rate
- No call requirements
