Job Description

• This is a travel nurse position in a 32-bed mixed model Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with 15 PCU beds and 17 Med-Surg beds.
• The unit focuses on cardio-pulmonary care, emphasizing pulmonary conditions.
• Patient population includes cardiac medical cases, valve replacements, COPD, CHF, pulmonary fibrosis, lung cancer, lung transplant (pre and post), trach-to-vent patients, neurodegenerative diseases requiring trach-to-vent, trauma (cervical spinal fractures) requiring trach-to-vent, flu, TB, and COVID-19.
• Travelers are expected to work every other weekend; consecutive weekends may be required based on operational needs.
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be required with provided training.
• Floating to different levels of care (Med-Surg, PCU, ICU) may be expected.
• Teaching facility environment: travel nurses must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Indiana
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Additional Information

• Locals are not accepted for this travel position.
• COVID-19 vaccine is required for all travelers; medical or religious exemptions accepted with documentation.
• Indiana RN license holders will not be allowed to work past 11/30/2024 except for Perioperative/OR and Allied/Ambulatory RN travelers.
• Staffing ratios: PCU assignments are 1:4; Med-Surg assignments are 1:5-6; sometimes mixed assignments of 4-5 patients.
• Extensive orientation and mandatory training modules are required prior to start.
• On-site fit testing is limited; documentation of fit testing must be provided.
• Travelers must complete facility-specific compliance and confidentiality forms prior to start.

Summary

This is a 13-week travel contract for an experienced Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of experience, preferably with Med-Surg and ICU/PCU exposure, to work in a cardio-pulmonary PCU unit in Indianapolis, Indiana. The role requires flexibility to float between units, willingness to precept students, and compliance with extensive health, background, and certification requirements.
