Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide radiation therapy treatments to patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings. Responsibilities include administering treatments, maintaining treatment records, performing simulations, acquiring treatment parameters, and assisting Radiation Oncologists with procedures such as brachytherapy. The role involves working with advanced equipment including Linear Accelerators and CT scanners, delivering various treatment types such as 3D, IMRT, SRS, and SBRT.
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (may require early start or late finish); no weekends or on-call.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Radiation Therapist license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Radiation Therapist, including experience within the last year
- ARRT Certification in Radiation Therapy
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Associate's Degree in Radiography
Key Responsibilities
- Administer radiation therapy treatments and maintain daily treatment records including dosages and calculations.
- Perform patient simulations and acquire treatment parameters.
- Maintain patient schedules and coordinate with families and hospital personnel.
- Monitor patient condition and progress daily (e.g., weight, skin care, reactions).
- Assist Radiation Oncologists during brachytherapy procedures.
- Work with a multidisciplinary team including Radiation Therapists, Nurses, Radiation Oncologists, Dosimetrists, and Physicists.
Work Environment & Equipment
- Outpatient department with treatment of inpatients transported to the department.
- Use of 3 Linear Accelerators (2 True Beam, 1 Halcyon).
- Treatment types include 3D, IMRT, SRS, and SBRT.
- Two CT scanners used for simulation appointments.
- Average daily treatments: 80-90; CT scan appointments: 6-7 per day.
- Team includes 5 Radiation Oncologists available for consults and follow-ups.
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Traveler’s permanent address must be more than 100 miles from the facility to be eligible.
- Must complete a 7-year background check including criminal, sex offender, and sanctions screening.
- Required health documents include physical exam, TB testing, immunizations (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B), drug screening, and respirator fit testing.
- Must complete competency exams and medication/pharmacology tests as required.
- Fingerprinting may be required depending on assignment.
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required by specified deadlines.
- Must comply with facility policies including confidentiality and acceptable use agreements.
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required.
- ACLS, PALS, or other certifications not specifically required unless noted.
- Competency exams and medication tests must be completed within specified timeframes.
- Color blindness testing required if applicable.
Prior Travel Experience
