Registered Nurse - PCU (Johnson City, Tennessee)

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 36/36 (36 hours on, 36 hours off)
  • Rotating weekends and holidays
  • No call required
  • Floating required within the unit
  • Hospital may cancel or call off one shift biweekly without penalty due to census changes
  • Additional shifts beyond the commitment may be offered as overtime and adjusted based on census needs
  • Expected to participate in nursing student support and clinical education alongside clinical care

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Tennessee
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with PCU experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Orientation & Compliance

  • General orientation includes 16 hours of non-billable time
  • Orientation begins on Sundays with online compliance modules
  • Traveler’s permanent residence must be at least 100 miles from the hospital service area

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – check unit requirements
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – required for ER, preferred prior to start
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – highly preferred for ER, not required
  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Competency exam required

Background & Health Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification required
  • Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry check if licensed or working in Tennessee
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (not required annually)
  • Respiratory fit testing completed onsite (previous fit tests from non-facility sources not accepted)
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required or documentation of immunity/declination:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) titers or vaccination documentation
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
    • Varicella titer or vaccination documentation
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
  • Standard 9-panel drug screen within 14 days of start

Additional Notes

  • Photo for badge must meet specific standards and be submitted within 48 hours of contract signing
  • Various facility-specific documents and acknowledgments required (dress code, smoking policy, exposure statements, etc.)
  • Candidate must complete respirator medical evaluation questionnaire within 48 hours of contract signing
  • References: minimum 2 preferred, 3 ideal
  • Skills checklist required

This position offers a structured travel nursing opportunity with a focus on cardiovascular care in a progressive care unit setting. The role includes clinical responsibilities as well as involvement in nursing education.
