Job Opportunity: Emergency Room Registered Nurse (ER RN)
Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Shift: 3x12-hour or 4x12-hour shifts, Days (7 AM - 7 PM)
- Patient Ratio: 1:4
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: May be required to float between like units or campuses within the region based on census and staffing needs
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
- ACLS issued by American Heart Association
- BLS issued by American Heart Association
- PALS issued by American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Facility & Work Environment
- Acute Care Hospital with 304 staffed beds
- ER staff scrub colors: Royal Blue and White
- Charting system: Epic
- Parking: No fee for parking; parking pass provided at badge pickup
- Hurricane Season Awareness: Assignments may include emergency response duties during hurricane season (June through November, peak in August and September)
Scheduling & Hours
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Block schedule accommodations may be requested but are not guaranteed
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and documentation)
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background check within 1 year including:
- SSN Trace
- County and statewide criminal checks
- Sex offender registry
- National criminal background
- FACIS 3 (if applicable)
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- NURSYS license verification (for RNs)
- Drug screen: 10-panel within 90 days of start
- Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to meet job demands without restrictions
- Respirator medical clearance annually (RespSafety questionnaire)
- Immunizations and health screenings:
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Seasonal flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Radiation badge may be required depending on unit assignment (not typical for ER RN)
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge
Additional Requirements
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approximately 2 hours)
- Completion of facility-specific forms including confidentiality, contractor forms, and job description acknowledgment
- Proof of at least two clinical references, including one from the unit of assignment
- Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
Notes for Candidates
- Locals may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Floating between campuses may be required within the region
- Must be prepared for potential emergency response duties during hurricane season
- All certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of assignment start date
This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least one year of experience in emergency nursing, who is comfortable working day shifts with a 1:4 patient ratio, and has experience with Epic EHR. Prior travel experience is not required.
