Job Opportunity: PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Overland Park, Kansas

Job Description

  • Position: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Floating: Yes, this is a float pool position with no home unit. Float between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU units and other metro campuses as needed.
  • Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
  • Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
  • On-call: Not required
  • Block schedule accommodation: Not available
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
  • Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days
  • Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Kansas
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Experience in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Experience with pre/post cardiac catheterization care
  • Experience managing suicidal ideation (SI)
  • Experience managing atrial fibrillation (AFIB)

Additional Requirements

  • Government-issued ID required
  • Background checks including criminal, statewide, nationwide, and international (if applicable)
  • Education verification of highest nursing degree required
  • Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include standard panels
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
  • Competency exams required including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, and unit-specific competency exams
  • Skills checklist required within 1 year of start
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)

Work Environment & Other Notes

  • Must be willing to float within scope of practice to multiple units and campuses
  • No pending licenses accepted
  • Virtual nursing skills and familiarity with 12 lead EKG, AirVo, Voalte, and Omnicell systems are beneficial
  • Candidates must comply with facility policies including dress code, hand hygiene, and confidentiality agreements
  • Orientation and mandatory training modules must be completed prior to start

Prior Travel Experience

  • No explicit prior travel experience required; first-time travelers accepted

This position offers a dynamic float pool role in a progressive care setting with a focus on cardiovascular and neurological patient care. Ideal candidates will have strong telemetry and critical care skills, flexibility to float across units, and meet all licensure and certification requirements.
