Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Telemetry

Location: New Haven, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: ASAP
Shift: 3x12 hour shifts
Patient Ratio: Average 1:5
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Guaranteed Hours: Yes
Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Connecticut
  • Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, with telemetry experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Certifications (may be required depending on unit)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) – for NICU
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy) – if assigned to Oncology
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – required for ER, preferred for Pediatric ER
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – required for Psychiatry/Behavioral Health, preferred for ER
  • NIH Stroke Certification – required for most RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric specialties, NICU, Labor and Delivery
  • Other unit-specific certifications as applicable

Competency Exams & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
  • Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates starting 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for Telemetry, MS/Tele, ER, ICU, Progressive Care, PACU, IR/Cath Lab, Endo/GI units)

Background Checks & Verifications

  • 7-year criminal background check (must be updated annually)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
  • Sex offender search
  • State license primary source verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification within 30 days of start
  • Employment verification for last 7 years with no gaps over 90 days

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
    • Varicella
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

Facility-Specific Training & Documents (to be completed prior to or at orientation)

  • Stroke Education Module (not required for Pediatric specialties and NICU)
  • CLABSI Prevention Training
  • Preventing Pressure Injury Training
  • Language Services Training
  • CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
  • Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
  • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
  • Pyxis ES MedStation Training
  • Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
  • Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
  • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain campuses)
  • Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
  • New Employee Orientation Module
  • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
  • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
  • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
  • Chaperone Policy Training
  • EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged for ER RNs with prior EPIC experience)
  • Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption form if applicable

Additional Notes

  • RTO (Return to Office) restrictions: RTO greater than 7 days requires approval
  • Candidates must provide all required documentation and complete all required training modules and attestations
  • Background checks and license verifications must be completed and approved prior to start
  • Floating within scope is expected to meet facility needs
