Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - MS/Tele

Location: Columbia, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry (MS/Tele)
  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Nights, 7 PM - 7 AM)
  • Patient Ratio: 1:5
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: Yes, but rare; if required, limited to first 4 hours
  • Floating: May be required to float within scope to like units or sister facilities

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

  • First-time travelers: Accepted
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Local candidates: Considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Hurricane Season: Assignments during June-November may include emergency response duties; peak activity in August and September

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:
    • Must include 7 years of residence/work history
    • SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, and healthcare-specific databases
    • Must be run within 90 days of start
  • Education Verification: Required; diploma or transcripts accepted as placeholder if needed
  • Licensure Verification: Primary source verification required; must be active and unencumbered
  • References: Minimum 2 clinical references, including at least one from the unit of assignment
  • Employment History: Verification of last 3 clinical employers required
  • Photo for Badge: Passport-style, frontal view, solid light background
  • Physical Exam: Within 90 days of start, updated annually, must clear candidate to work without restrictions
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Immunizations & Health:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination series or declination
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
    • COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Respirator Clearance: Annual medical clearance required for respirator use
  • Radiation Badge: Required only if working in specific areas (not typical for MS/Tele RN)

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2-6 hours depending on unit)
  • Upload vaccination records and required documents into facility system prior to orientation
  • Must complete confidentiality, security agreements, and other contractor forms before starting

Notes for Candidates

  • Block scheduling requests require manager approval and depend on unit needs
  • Parking is available with no fee; parking pass provided at badge pickup
  • Facility uses Epic for charting; Epic experience is mandatory
  • Travelers should be prepared for possible emergency response duties during hurricane season
