Job Opportunity: Radiation Therapist

Location: Toledo, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Deliver prescribed radiation therapy accurately with minimal supervision.
  • Educate patients about procedures, communication during treatment, and emergency protocols.
  • Reinforce radiation oncologist’s advice regarding treatment reactions and care.
  • Prepare treatment room and equipment according to prescription (immobilization devices, field size, treatment distance, lead protection, etc.).
  • Safely transfer patients to treatment couch, taking special care with catheters and IV drips.
  • Check daily treatment prescriptions and deliver prescribed doses.
  • Maintain communication with patients during treatment.
  • Observe patients for unusual reactions and report to nursing or radiation oncologist staff.
  • Assist in emergency treatment as needed.
  • Perform CT scans for treatment planning.
  • Observe radiation safety measures for patients and personnel.
  • Maintain daily treatment records and other required documentation.
  • Assist in tumor localization procedures, preparation of molds, casts, and immobilization devices.
  • Check and maintain beam directional and protective devices under supervision.
  • Perform initial warm-up procedures for therapy equipment.
  • Assist in dosimetry procedures.
  • Maintain supplies and secure x-rays and lab reports.
  • Report equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of therapy equipment.
  • Ensure imaging orders are followed daily/weekly.
  • Maintain billing documentation daily.
  • Assist in follow-up clinics and clinical examinations.
  • Document and reinforce patient education for all age groups.
  • Assist in student supervision and evaluation.
  • Attend department conferences and meetings.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Radiation Therapist license in Ohio.
  • Minimum of 1 year of Radiation Therapist experience within the last year.
  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
