Job Opportunity: Stepdown Cardiac Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Unit: Emergency Department (ED) Holding / Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) Level holds within the ED
  • Role: Care for inpatient/CICU level patients held in the ED
  • Patient Diagnoses include:
    • Chest Pain
    • Syncope
    • Heart Failure
    • Sepsis
    • Overdose
    • GI Bleed
    • COPD
    • Pneumonia
    • Medical, Surgical, Trauma, Oncology, Orthopedic overflow
    • Post-catheterization with stent (no CABG)
    • ICD/Pacer insertions
    • Cardioversions

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • Strong Progressive Care Unit (PCU) background within the last year required
  • Emergency Department (ED) experience preferred but not required
  • First-time travelers accepted only if they have EPIC experience and 2 years of experience (no first timers with only 1 year experience)
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA Provider only
  • BCLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA Provider only
  • EKG test on arrival (pass/fail testing required)
  • Management and titration of drips (Lasix, Heparin, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Integrillin, Labetalol, Dopamine, Dobutamine)
  • Familiarity with special equipment: Bipap, Cpap, Vapotherm, Alaris Pumps, Phillips Monitoring System

Required Licensure

  • Current, valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New Hampshire

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start including:
    • Social Security Verification
    • National Sex Offender Registry
    • National Criminal Search
    • FACIS Level 3
    • Education Verification
    • Criminal county/state searches (excluding NH counties; NH State Police search required instead)
    • Motor Vehicle Background Check if driving to patient homes (criteria apply)
  • Drug screen: 10-panel within 14 days prior to start (with a 7-day grace period if pushed)
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance questionnaire required
  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
  • Fit mask test annually (N95 or equivalent)
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap (within last 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination (declinations require waiver)
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 31 - Apr 1) or approved exemption
  • Facility-specific immunization waivers and exemption forms may be required for religious or medical reasons

Additional Requirements

  • Two current professional references within the last 3 years (one must be from a supervisor or charge RN)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required
  • Annual internal evaluation for travelers with 1+ year tenure
  • Completion of facility orientation safety manual acknowledgment
  • Pass/fail dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 48 hours of contract signing (specific to some units)
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification preferred

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Hampshire
  • Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Candidates must be prepared for pass/fail testing and competency exams related to EKG and medication administration.
  • Weekend shifts are required every other weekend.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a critical care stepdown environment with a focus on cardiac patients in an ED setting. Candidates should have strong PCU experience and be comfortable managing complex cardiac drips and monitoring equipment.
