Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PCU
Location: Overland Park, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Position: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 5 patients
- Experience Required: 2 years (higher end of 1-2 years stated)
- First-time travelers accepted
- Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
- Charge RN and holiday shifts as needed
- Float Pool Position: No home unit; float between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU units and other metro campuses as needed
- On-call: Not required
- Block schedule accommodation: Not available
- Local candidates not accepted (must live at least 75 miles from facility)
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions: No more than 7 days
- Guaranteed Hours: Minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
Preferred Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas
- Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience managing suicidal ideation (SI)
- Experience managing gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB)
- Experience managing stroke patients
Licensure & Qualifications
- Must hold an active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Kansas
- Government-issued ID required
- Background checks required, including criminal background, education verification, and state-specific searches
- Drug testing required within 1 year of start and must remain valid throughout assignment
- Physical exam required within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing (N95) required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination as applicable
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption during flu season
Competency & Compliance Requirements
- Unit-specific competency exams required annually, including dysrhythmia/EKG competency
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blindness testing within 12 months of start
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and regulatory compliance education modules
- Various facility policies must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., hand hygiene, dress code, confidentiality)
Additional Information
- Must provide two professional references (supervisors preferred)
- Skills checklist required within 1 year of start, including oncology skills if applicable
- Floating between multiple units and campuses is mandatory
- No pending licenses accepted
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months)
