Registered Nurse - Stepdown Cardiac
Location: Dayton, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with Stepdown (SD) or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience. ICU experience does not count toward SD/PCU experience requirement. Targeted patient ratios are 1:5-6.
Required Experience
- Minimum 1.5 years nursing experience
- Must have Stepdown or PCU experience with demonstrated 1:5 patient ratio experience in work history
- Some level 1 or 2 experience preferred
- Travel experience preferred but not required
Required Skills & Competencies
- EPIC experience
- Ability to pass an online EKG telemetry competency assessment before starting
- BLS and NIH Stroke certification required; ACLS preferred (must be able to read and interpret EKG strips)
- IV start skills
- Ability to float to other specialty clusters as needed
- Must be available to work every other weekend and holidays
- Fit testing for N95 respirator prior to working on the unit (PAPR offered if needed)
Unit Details
- Advanced Care Unit typical patients: heart failure, chest pain rule out, NSTEMI, post-procedure, COPD exacerbation, drug/alcohol overdose and withdrawal
- Competency in running IV drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, Cardizem, insulin, etc.
- Daily average census: 31 patients
- Navy blue scrubs required
Scheduling & Other Requirements
- Floating assignments may include nearby campuses within 10-15 miles
- Employer reserves the right to cancel shifts or contract with notice
- Travelers are not eligible for employee incentives
Required Qualifications & Certifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Cardiac Stepdown nursing experience of at least 1.5 years, including experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- IV start experience
- Competency in running IV drips such as heparin, nitroglycerin, amiodarone, Cardizem, and insulin
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Additional Notes
- ICU experience does not fulfill Stepdown/PCU experience requirement
- Must demonstrate 1:5 patient ratio experience in Stepdown or PCU in application to be considered
- Floating assignments are at employer discretion and will be medically appropriate
- Travel experience is preferred but not mandatory
This position requires a highly skilled RN with specific Stepdown/PCU experience, strong clinical competencies, and flexibility to float between units.
