Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist - NICU

Location: Charlottesville, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 36 or 48 hours per week
Schedule: Every other weekend and every other holiday; unit uses a self-scheduling model (manager will explain during call; desired schedule not guaranteed but accommodated when possible)

Job Description

• Work in a children's hospital setting.
• Must have Level 4 NICU experience.
• Cardiac PICU experience is preferred.
• Clinical review and offer process includes manager approval and follow-up call.

Required Qualifications

• Valid Respiratory Therapist license in Virginia.
• At least 1 year of Respiratory Therapist experience within the last year.
• Experience working with Neonate patients.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.

Key Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Proof of I9 or attestation.
• Government-issued photo ID.
• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, education verification, and abuse registry search (if applicable).
• Official transcript or diploma (photocopies not accepted).
• Drug testing within 2 months of start, including marijuana and fentanyl panels.
• Immunizations and health screenings including:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (no exemptions allowed).
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2-step PPD or Qgold acceptable; Tspot not accepted).
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella vaccinations or positive titers (no declinations accepted).
  • Hepatitis B surface antibody titer (specific requirements apply).
  • Varicella vaccination or titer (declination required if negative).
  • Seasonal flu vaccination (no exemptions or declinations accepted).
• Physical exam within 12 months attesting ability to meet physical demands.
• Pass/fail cardiac rhythm assessment during orientation (not required for NICU but noted for adult inpatient RN positions).
• Professional appearance guidelines review.
• Release authorization and TB screening forms.
• Fit testing if required for patient-facing roles.
• Latex allergy questionnaire if applicable.

Preferred Certifications (if applicable)

• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC)
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
• Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) for Behavioral Health (not applicable here)

Additional Notes

• Candidates can submit applications with a Virginia license pending if they have another state license and can obtain a temporary license before starting.
• The unit has a self-scheduling model; flexibility and communication with management are important.
• Cardiac PICU experience is a plus but not mandatory.
