Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Day shift: 8:30 AM – 9:00 PM)
- On-Call: Up to 2 call shifts per month (7 AM–7 PM or 7 PM–7 AM on weekends)
- Weekend Requirement: Up to 1 weekend shift every 4 weeks
- Holiday Requirement: Must work at least one holiday period (Christmas and New Year’s specified)
- Floating: May be required to float within scope to meet unit needs or between like units
Facility Highlights
- Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet designated hospital
- Main OR with 21 suites covering all surgical specialties including Trauma, Transplant, Orthopedics, Neurosurgery, ENT, GU-GYN, Robotics
- Nursing team: 75% RNs trained to scrub and circulate, 25% Certified Surgical Technologists
- Uses EPIC for charting
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in South Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) nursing experience, with OR experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Work Environment & Scheduling
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Local candidates accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and documentation)
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background checks including criminal, sex offender registry, and employment history for past 7 years
- Education verification (diploma/transcripts)
- Primary source license verification (active, unencumbered)
- NURSYS verification for RN licenses
- Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start
- Physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands, updated annually
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days of start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
- Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive history
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season
- COVID vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Radiation badge required for OR staff working in areas with radiation exposure
Orientation & Onboarding
- Completion of facility-specific orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Submission of a clear, passport-style photo for badge issuance before start date
- First Day Instructions and OurDay platform modules must be completed before orientation
- Travelers may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June–November)
