Registered Nurse - PACU
Location: Greensboro, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) position. This role involves working 3 twelve-hour day shifts (9:00 AM - 9:30 PM) with call requirements on weekends and holidays as needed.
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
- No first-time travelers accepted.
- Experience in Phase 1 PACU is required.
- Ambulatory or outpatient, pain management, and Phase 2 recovery experience preferred.
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Pass/Fail EKG exam required for all RNs regardless of specialty.
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke Certification) — verify with employer.
Licensure
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina required.
- Primary source verification of license required within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification required within 60 days of start.
Work Schedule
- 3x12 hour shifts, days (9:00 AM - 9:30 PM)
- Call required on weekends and holidays as needed
- Flexibility with scheduling and strict adherence to punctuality and attendance policies expected
Patient Care Focus
- Main case types: Orthopedics, Urology, General Surgery, Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology
- Phase 1 PACU care essential
- Pain management and ambulatory/outpatient experience preferred
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Social Security Card for badge processing
- Background check within 60 days covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- Education verification and diploma/transcript as applicable
- Foreign equivalency evaluation if education obtained outside the U.S.
- Drug screening (10-panel) within 40 days of start
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption
- Fit mask test (N95) completed within current calendar year and updated annually
- Physical exam within 12 months (as applicable)
Testing and Competency Exams
- Pass/fail EKG/Dysrhythmia exam with a minimum passing score of 82% (two attempts allowed)
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam (minimum 80% passing score)
- Other competency exams as required by specialty/unit
References and Work History
- Two supervisory references required for clinical positions:
- One from an assignment within 12 months prior to start
- One from an assignment within 24 months prior to start
- Employment application/resume with 7-year work history required
- Verification of employment for the last 5 years required
Additional Notes
- Candidates must be aware of and comply with a zero-tolerance policy for tardiness and unexcused absences.
- Candidates must complete all compliance requirements by the specified deadlines prior to start.
- Orientation and onboarding tasks must be completed before arrival onsite.
- Candidates must submit a professional badge photo meeting strict guidelines (no selfies, hats, filters, etc.).
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) nursing experience
- PACU experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- PALS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Medication Administration Badge (MAB)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
This position is ideal for experienced PACU Registered Nurses who meet the certification and licensure requirements and are comfortable working extended day shifts with call responsibilities.
