Job Description

• Position: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse
• Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Floating: This is a float pool position with no home unit. You will float between approximately 5 Med/Surg Intermediate/PCU departments and may float to other metro campuses as needed.
• Weekend Requirement: 8 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule period (Friday/Saturday/Sunday combination)
• Holiday shifts and Charge RN assignments as needed
• On-call: Not required
• Block schedule accommodation: Not available
• Local candidates accepted
• Pending license not accepted
• Return to work restrictions: No more than 7 days off
• Guaranteed hours: 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Required Experience & Skills

• Years of Experience: 2 years (higher end of 1 to 2 years required)
• First-time travelers accepted
• Skills required in settings including Med/Surg, Telemetry, Cardiac Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown
• Cardiac monitoring and emergency response skills: interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring
• Cardiovascular care: pre/post cardiac catheterization, sepsis, wound care, alcohol withdrawal, suicidal ideation, renal failure, atrial fibrillation, gastrointestinal bleeding, stroke, COVID care
• Must be able to float within scope to meet facility needs

Certifications Required

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Preferred Certifications:

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)

Preferred Skills

• Cardiovascular: sheath removal
• Gastrointestinal: feeding tube care and management
• IV therapy/phlebotomy: accessing ports, blood product administration, central line care/management

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Kansas
• Minimum 1 year of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIHSS certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience interpreting and managing dysrhythmias
• Experience managing suicidal ideation (SI)
• Experience managing gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB)

Additional Information

• Floating between multiple units and campuses requires flexibility
• No on-call or block scheduling options
• Must complete required background checks, immunizations, and competency exams prior to start
• References: Two professional references required, preferably supervisors within the last year
• Performance evaluations may be requested after assignment completion

Summary

This is a travel contract opportunity for an experienced PCU Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of experience. The role requires flexibility to float across multiple units and campuses, weekend availability, and a strong skill set in telemetry and cardiovascular care.
