Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Nurse - Neuro Unit

Location: Tyler, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Description

  • General Neuro Unit (3 South) with 19 private rooms
  • Patient population ranges from young adult to geriatric
  • Focus on medical surgical level monitoring, interventions, and care
  • Patient types include medical, surgical, neurology, and neurosurgical diagnoses
  • Equipped with telemetry and oximetry monitoring
  • Patient ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
  • Shift: 3 shifts of 12 hours each

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in the specialty
  • Travel experience preferred (not required)
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Certifications required: NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS), Basic Life Support (BLS)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Texas
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with at least 1 year of recent Med Surg experience
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Education verification (highest level) required
  • Employment application and resume required
  • Work history verification for the past 7 years
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required annually
  • Photo for badge identification required

Additional Notes

  • Candidates residing in certain counties in Texas are not eligible for this travel assignment (counties include but are not limited to Henderson, Anderson, Smith, Gregg, and others)
  • Fingerprinting and other onboarding requirements may apply depending on location
  • Orientation and safety manual acknowledgment required

This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with a background in medical-surgical and neuro care who are comfortable working in a telemetry-equipped unit and managing a moderate patient load. Travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
