Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse

Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking motivated and experienced Labor and Delivery Registered Nurses to join a team-based unit caring for neonates/infants and adults. The unit includes labor (vaginal), C-sections, multiple births, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension, and D&C procedures.

  • Neonates/Infants
  • Adults

Unit Details

  • 16 Labor & Delivery beds with an average daily census of 15
  • 6 bed Labor & Delivery Triage
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1-2
  • Unit systems: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR
  • Scrub color provided by facility
  • Floating within facility/scope of practice as needed

Schedule & Requirements

  • Return to Orientation (RTO) maximum: 7 days
  • RTO blackout dates: Spring Break (April 4th-12th)
  • Weekend shifts: 3 per contract
  • Call requirements: 2 calls per 6 weeks for AM & PM shifts
  • Holiday work expectations:
    • If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, expected to work it
    • If 2 major holidays, expected to work both
    • If 3 major holidays, expected to work 2 of them
  • Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with C-sections, postpartum hemorrhage, and D&C procedures
  • Current BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical record system

Compliance & Orientation

  • Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may result in a 2-week pushback due to bi-weekly orientation schedule
  • Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length

Health & Background Requirements

  • Background check required within 30 days of start, including education verification
  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (with additional requirements if history of positive TB)
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (titer or signed declination)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Mar 31)
  • Annual TB questionnaire

Additional Requirements

  • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam required
  • Color blind testing required
  • Competency exams as applicable (e.g., dysrhythmia/EKG for certain specialties)
  • Review and sign facility code of conduct and dress/professional appearance policies prior to start
  • 2 clinical references required
  • Skills checklist updated within 12 months
  • Verification of most recent work history required (can be pending at start with proof it is in process)

Notes

  • Locals accepted at the same rate as travelers
  • Floating within the facility as needed
  • Must be able to work scheduled weekends, holidays, and call shifts as described
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position
