Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVOR

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) Registered Nurse
  • Patient Population: Adult open heart surgery including CABG, valve surgeries (aortic, mitral, pulmonic)
  • Unit: CVOR with floating to Main OR if no CVOR cases during shift
  • Call Requirements: 32 total hours per month
  • Charting System: EPIC
  • Scrubs: Provided

Required Experience & Skills

  • Minimum 3+ years of RN experience in CVOR or related specialty
  • Scrub experience required for open CVOR cases
  • Circulate and TAVR experience highly preferred
  • Knowledge of Impella and HeartMate devices, ECMO, laser lead extractions, and TAVR procedures

Certifications & Licenses Required

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New Jersey
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Certified Nurse Operating Room (CNOR) preferred but not mandatory

Travel Experience

  • First-time travelers will be considered, but prior travel experience is highly preferred

Schedule & Floating

  • Floating to Main OR as needed
  • Schedule accommodations (block/time off) must be requested and approved prior to offer

Patient Care Focus

  • Adult cardiac surgery patients requiring specialized CVOR nursing skills

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • Two professional references within the last 2 years (one managerial)
  • Background check within 30 days of start
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Immunization and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Annual influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption
  • Respiratory medical clearance and fit testing prior to start (mandatory on-site fit test)
  • Completion of required competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy (except OR specialties) within 72 hours of signing
  • Completion of facility-specific education and attestations prior to start

Additional Requirements

  • Completion of annual education sign-off and safety training (OSHA, HIPAA, Joint Commission)
  • Compliance with facility floating policy
  • Completion of pass/fail testing for EKG and medication as applicable
  • Color vision testing if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Documentation of any required specialty certifications or training (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP) as applicable to the unit or patient population

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
  • Minimum of 3 years of Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR) experience, with CVOR experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Scrub experience for open CVOR cases
  • Knowledge and experience with Impella and HeartMate devices
  • Experience with Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
  • Experience with laser lead extractions
  • Experience with Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)

  • Locals are accepted for this position
