Job Description

• Primary unit: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
• Floating assignments may include Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and potentially other units based on skill set and hospital needs (floating confirmed with traveler)
• Patient ratio approximately 1:2+
• Unit size: 19 beds
• Charting system: EPIC
• Schedule: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
• Scrub color: Navy Blue

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
• Minimum 3 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, including experience within the last year
• At least one completed travel nursing assignment
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
• IV Certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Certifications & Licenses

Required Documentation & Compliance

• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
• Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
• Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine drug screen)
• Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start (updated annually)
• Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
• Background check including criminal, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific exclusions within 30 days of start
• Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
• Two professional references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
• Skills checklist documenting required clinical skills, updated annually
• Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy/infusion, and others as applicable, with strict pass/fail policies
• Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation requirements

Additional Notes

• Floating assignments require completion of floating policy documentation for each new assignment
• Candidates must comply with all facility-specific education, competency, and certification requirements
• Color blind testing required if job tasks involve color discrimination
• Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) certification required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (not typically for PICU)
• Pass/fail testing for EKG and medication exams with remediation policies in place
• CEUs (Continuing Education Units) required for certain specialties and certifications, with specific expiration and renewal timelines

This position is ideal for experienced PICU nurses with strong cardiac care skills who have prior travel nursing experience and meet the comprehensive certification and compliance requirements.
