Travel Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks
Job Summary
- Guaranteed 36 or 48 hour shifts
- Patient population: Adults to Geriatrics
- Unit: Medical Surgical / Remote Telemetry
- Common diagnoses: diabetes, med/surg, post-op, wound vacs, bariatrics
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
- Average daily census: 28 patients
- Electronic systems used: Epic (required), Pyxis, SBAR
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Return to Orientation (RTO) required within 7 days
- Floating within facility as needed
- Weekend shifts: every other weekend
- Call: None
- Holiday work expectations: If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, must work it; if 2, must work both; if 3, must work 2 of them
Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year's Eve/Day
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
- Minimum 1 year of Medical Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Certifications (as applicable)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or ARC accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – may be required depending on unit
- PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification – check unit-specific requirements
- State license verification within 30 days prior to start
- Annual NURSYS verification within 30 days prior to start
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check required within 30 days of start (including criminal, sex offender, education verification)
- Education verification required; diploma/transcript may be accepted if degree verification is pending
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months (with additional requirements if prior positive TB)
- Immunizations/vaccinations required or proof of immunity: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination required
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start
- Color blindness test required
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry and related units (3 attempts max)
- Skills checklist within 12 months, updated annually
- Work history verification and 2 clinical references required

- Orientation hours vary based on contract length
- Full compliance with all requirements needed to start on time; delays may result in assignment pushback
