Job Opportunity: Step Down Registered Nurse

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Work on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
  • Shifts: 3 twelve-hour shifts per week (rotating day/night shifts, 7pm-7:30am and 7am-7:30pm). Shift rotation may be required based on operational needs.
  • Must work at least every other holiday.
  • Orientation includes ECG rhythm recognition test and medication safety exam; passing scores required.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.
  • Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year.
  • Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • CHEMO certification.
  • CST (Competency Skills Test) completion.
  • CVOR (Cardiovascular Operating Room) experience or certification.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS and ACLS must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
  • NIH Stroke Certification must be current and renewed as required.
  • Medication and ECG competency exams required at orientation with minimum passing scores (SafeMedicate 90%, ECG 80%).
  • Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not mandatory.

Licensure & Background Requirements

  • Must have a permanent Ohio RN license or Compact State RN license.
  • Background checks required prior to assignment start and must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
  • FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Facility fingerprinting also required onsite.
  • Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during assignment.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Immunizations/vaccinations required:
    • Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray as applicable (updated annually)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccinations or positive titers
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or titer or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (declinations not accepted; exemptions require approval)
  • Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start, updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Eye exam (Snellen) within 1 year of start.

Additional Requirements

  • Must complete facility-specific online training modules prior to start. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on a phone.
  • References: Two professional references from employment within the last year required (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
  • Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
  • Must be able to safely perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required, but recent Stepdown travel experience counts toward the experience requirement.
  • Floating to other units with similar patient populations may be required.
  • Orientation includes competency testing that must be passed to continue assignment.
  • Holiday work is required at least every other holiday.

This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown RNs with solid acute care backgrounds seeking a travel contract in Ohio.
