Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for a 1:1 ratio Operating Room position specializing in gynecological procedures for female patients aged 12 and up. The unit focuses on a variety of GYN surgeries including therapeutic abortions, robotic hysterectomies, laparoscopies, hysteroscopies, D&C, and other specialized pelvic procedures.


Schedule & Shift Details

  • 40 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (8-hour days)
  • Call requirement approximately once per week (5 PM to 7 AM), including holiday and potential weekend rotation if weekend staff are off
  • May float to other surgical service areas
  • Weekend call may be required occasionally

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
  • Minimum 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, with OR experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Patient Population & Procedures

  • Women ages 12 and older
  • Procedures include but are not limited to:
    • Therapeutic abortions (TABs)
    • Vaginal, abdominal, robotic, and laparoscopic hysterectomies
    • Laparoscopies (diagnostic and operative)
    • Hysteroscopies (including Novasure and Myosure)
    • Dilation and Curettage (D&C)
    • Treatment for endometriosis, sacrocolpopexy, pelvic work
    • Bladder slings, cystoscopies, bulkamids, interstims
    • Exploratory laparotomy
    • Cold knife cones
    • LEEP procedures

Equipment & Systems

  • Special equipment: Da Vinci robotic system preferred, Novasure, Myosure
  • Unit systems: Pyxis medication system, EPIC electronic health records, SBAR communication tool
  • Scrubs provided

Additional Important Information

  • No Return to Office (RTO) after booking allowed; call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation
  • Required to complete various background checks, education verifications, and competency exams as per travel healthcare standards
  • Mandatory compliance with facility-specific training and orientation modules prior to start
  • Required health documents include up-to-date immunizations (e.g., flu vaccine or approved exemption), TB screening, drug testing, and physical exam as per travel healthcare standards
  • Must complete medication safety training and confidentiality agreements
  • Photo for badge required prior to start
  • Candidates must be prepared for potential call and float responsibilities within surgical services
