Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU).
  • Patient ratio typically 1:1 to 1:2; ratios may vary when floated.
  • Patient population includes fresh heart surgery patients, ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and patients with chronic and acute renal failure.
  • Floating required to all ICUs, PACU, ED for ICU holding patients, and all IMC units.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
  • Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
  • ACLS certification
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIHSS certification
  • IV Certification
  • CBSPD certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT using Prismax
  • Experience with fresh heart cases and post-op open heart recovery
  • Experience with Swan-Ganz catheter (Swan), Flotrack, temporary pacers, arterial lines (A-lines), and chest tubes

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)

Schedule & Time Off

  • Every other weekend and holiday required as applicable.
  • All time off or schedule accommodations must be approved prior to offer.

Licensure

  • Must hold a valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for New Jersey.

Prior Travel Experience

  • First-time travelers are accepted.

Additional Requirements & Compliance

  • Background check required within 30 days of start.
  • Drug screening within 30 days of start.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray required.
  • Physical exam within the last 12 months confirming ability to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease.
  • Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start.
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually.
  • Various competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, IV therapy, and pass/fail testing required within specified timeframes.
  • Completion of facility-specific education and floating policy acknowledgment required.
  • References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference.
  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required.
  • Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start).

Patient Care Equipment & Technology

  • Experience with Impella, IABP, CRRT (Prismax), Swan-Ganz catheter, Flotrack, temporary pacers, arterial lines, chest tubes.

Notes

  • Floating to other critical care and intermediate care units is required.
  • Candidates must be prepared to work with complex cardiovascular patients including fresh post-op open heart surgery cases.
  • Compliance with all health and safety documentation and certifications is mandatory for clearance and continued employment.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity cardiovascular ICU setting with a diverse patient population requiring advanced nursing skills and critical care expertise.
