Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - CVICU
Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Description
- Position in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Patient ratio typically 1:1 to 1:2; may vary when floated
- Patient population includes fresh heart surgery patients, ventilated patients, chest tubes, lumbar drains, and patients with chronic and acute renal failure
- Floating required to all ICUs, PACU, Emergency Department (ED) for ICU holding patients, and Intermediate Care (IMC) units
Required Experience
- Minimum 2 years of current CVICU experience required
- SICU experience may be considered with initial CVICU training
- Experience with devices such as Impella, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP), and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) using Prismax, or experience with fresh heart cases is mandatory
- Required skills include post-op open heart recovery, Swan-Ganz catheter, Flotrack, temporary pacers, arterial lines, and chest tubes
- Experience with fresh open heart surgeries such as CABG, MVR, AVR, TAVR
Certifications & Licenses Required
- Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New Jersey
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification
- IV Certification (unless working in OR specialties)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (e.g., PALS, NRP, CHEMO) – confirm with program coordinator as needed
Schedule & Time Off
- Every other weekend and holiday required, as applicable
- All time off or schedule accommodations must be approved prior to offer
Additional Requirements
- Must complete background checks including criminal background, motor vehicle records, and federal/state exclusions within 30 days of start
- Drug screening within 30 days of start
- Physical exam within the previous 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray as per facility policy
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing required prior to start and annually thereafter
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Completion of facility-specific education and orientation, including annual education sign-off
- Pass/fail competency exams including medication/pharmacology, EKG/dysrhythmia, IV therapy, and others as applicable
- References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
- Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start, allowing 30-day gaps)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Minimum 2 years of CVICU experience, with CVICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- IV Certification
- Experience with Impella device
- Experience with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
- Experience with Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) using Prismax
- Experience with fresh heart cases
