Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - NICU

Location: Nashua, New Hampshire
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

Seeking a Registered Nurse with NICU specialty to provide care for neonatal patients including preterm newborns and those with respiratory distress, sepsis, hyperbilirubinemia, and neonatal abstinence syndrome (NAS). The position involves working in a 9-bed unit with an average daily census of 3 patients. Shift is a night/day rotation based on unit needs (7p-7:30a or 7a-7:30p), with 36 or 48-hour shifts accepted. Weekend work is required every other weekend. No call requirement.


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in New Hampshire
  • Certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) issued by American Heart Association
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • MAB (Medication Administration by Blood)
    • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
    • Neonatal Code Responder skills
  • Skills:
    • Ability to manage newborns on CPAP (bubble CPAP management)
    • Ability to start IVs, draw labs and blood gases
    • Neonatal resuscitation (Code Pink response)

Unit & Patient Details

  • Patient Diagnoses:
    • Preterm newborns
    • Respiratory distress
    • Sepsis
    • Feeder/growers
    • Hyperbilirubinemia
    • Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome (NAS)
  • Special Procedures:
    • Attend all C-section sections and high-risk deliveries with hospitalist
    • Respond to neonatal resuscitation emergencies
  • Equipment:
    • Neopuff/T-piece resuscitator
    • Bubble CPAP
    • Cardiac-respiratory monitors
  • Float Requirement: May float to normal newborn nursery.

Orientation & Training

  • Unit orientation: 24 hours
  • Pass/fail testing on EKG/Dysrhythmia required within 48 hours of contract start for certain units.
  • Medication and competency exams required internally.

Work Schedule

  • Night/Day rotation shifts (7p-7:30a or 7a-7:30p)
  • 36 or 48-hour shifts accepted
  • Every other weekend required
  • No call requirement

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start including social security verification, national sex offender registry, criminal searches (excluding NH counties), education verification, and others as specified.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 14 days prior to start (no exceptions).
  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap (within last 10 years)
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B immunity or vaccination documentation
    • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season or approved exemption.
  • Respiratory safety clearance questionnaire required.
  • Professional references: Two current professional references within last 3 years, including one from a supervisor or charge nurse.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.

Additional Notes

  • Scrubs: Any color/style accepted.
  • Travelers who have previously been employed by the associated health system are not eligible.
  • Must complete required releases and authorizations (SSA, state-specific background checks).
  • Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines require facility-specific waiver forms and approval.
  • Fit mask testing required annually for clinical staff; CAPR training available if fit test fails.

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized NICU environment with a supportive team and a variety of neonatal patient care experiences.
