Job Opportunity: Hospice Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Rosedale, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide and coordinate home nursing care according to physician orders and agency policies.
- Directly supervise and evaluate Home Health Aides and Licensed Practical Nurses/Licensed Vocational Nurses.
- Average patient load: 5-8 patients per day.
- Types of visits include Start of Care, Wound Care, Follow-up Visits, etc.
- Must be willing to travel up to 75 miles from home clinic; approximately 200-250 miles traveled weekly.
- Schedule: Four 10-hour days (Friday through Monday), 9 AM to 7 PM.
- Weekend position; on-call requirements vary by location but generally not required for this role.
- Use of electronic medical records systems: HomeCare HomeBase (HCHB), PointCare, and OASIS (RNs required to be proficient).
- Dress code: Scrubs.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of hospice nursing experience within the last year.
- Experience working with adult patients in a home health setting.
- Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Proficiency with HomeCare HomeBase and OASIS electronic medical records systems.
Additional Information
- Productivity expectations: 22-25 weekly units.
- Critical staffing needs create the demand for this position.
- Local candidates accepted under the same terms as travelers.
- No guaranteed hours; if patient census is low, floating to a nearby clinic may be discussed.
- Mileage reimbursed at IRS standard rate for travel between patient homes (commute to/from first and last patient is not billable).
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
Candidates must complete and maintain the following prior to and during assignment:
- Valid driver’s license/state ID.
- Background checks including 7-year history, sex offender search, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and state-specific searches as applicable.
- Fingerprinting as required by state regulations.
- Education verification.
- Drug screening (10-panel).
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- Physical exam within 12 months.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months.
- Proof of immunity or vaccination for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- Flu vaccination or documented declination.
- COVID-19 vaccination or documented declination.
- Completion of facility-specific compliance training, confidentiality agreements, HIPAA and privacy policies, and other required policy acknowledgments.
- References: Two professional references required.
- Work history verification for the last 7 years or two most recent employers.
Travel and Work Environment
- Home visits with periodic office meetings.
- Must have reliable transportation and insurance.
- Territory covers multiple counties within Maryland.
- Weekend work required.
- No on-call duties for this position.
