Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Description
- Chemotherapy certification required (ONS/ONCC)
- Work schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours (07:00 - 19:30)
- Will work every other weekend and holidays as needed
- Must be able to float to other MedSurg units as needed
- Charting system: EPIC
Facility Type
- Short term acute care hospital
- Level II Trauma Center
- Total staffed beds: 426
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
Required Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must score 85%)
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates on/after 8/2/2024, must score 80%)
Required Licenses
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Connecticut
- Primary source verification required within 30 days of start
Background Checks & Verifications
- 7-year criminal background check (must be updated annually)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM check within 30 days of start
- HHS/OIG check within 30 days of start
- Education verification including foreign equivalency evaluation if applicable
- Sex offender search
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 12 months of start
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
- Annual TB questionnaire
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (or declination)
- Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor & Delivery, Postpartum
- 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
- COVID vaccination preferred

- Stroke Education Module and Attestation (not required for Pediatric specialties and NICU)
- CLABSI Prevention Training and Attestation
- Preventing Pressure Injury Training and Attestation
- Language Services Training and Attestation
- CAUTI Education Training (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
- Patient Transportation with Oxygen Education
- Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment Training
- Pyxis ES MedStation Training and Attestation
- Baxter Pump Interoperability Training
- Patient Bedside Rounding Module (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER/ED)
- Ventricular Assist Device Awareness Training
- Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health/Psych, Home Health)
- New Employee Orientation Module
- 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
- ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
- eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
- Chaperone Policy Training
- EPIC Testing (optional but highly encouraged for those with EPIC experience)
- Vaccination Booster Medical Exemption form if applicable
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Oncology
- Minimum 3 years of experience in specialty (based on certification and job description)
Schedule & Work Conditions
- 12-hour shifts, days (07:00 - 19:30)
- Every other weekend and holidays as needed
- Floating to other MedSurg units required

Requirements/Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year
- Current ACLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross

- Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC)
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
