Registered Nurse - MS/Tele

Job Description

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical / Telemetry with Behavioral Health
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
• Required years of experience: 2 years in MS/Telemetry
• First-time travelers accepted
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• On-call: Not required
• Floating: Must be comfortable floating between like units within the facility's scope
• Block scheduling: Not available
• Local candidates: Not accepted (50-mile radius rule applies)
• Pending license: Not accepted
• Return staff policy: Must be off assignment for 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Maximum of 2 contracts allowed consecutively; after that, a 6-month break is required before returning

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or Military only; must be current at start
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Military only; required for specific units including ED, ICUs, Step Down, etc.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for certain units (ED, OR, PICU, PACU, etc.)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for L&D, FCCU, NICU units
• NIH Stroke Certification - Must be updated annually; required for ED, Psych ED, ICUs, Step Down, Med Surg, L&D, Express Care
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - Must be completed via Relias and renewed annually; required for Telemetry, Step Down, Med Surg, and other units
• Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) - Required for awareness on multiple units; candidates have 3 attempts to pass with remediation required after failures

Required Licenses

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for North Carolina
• License must be current and not expiring the month of assignment start

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Background and Health Requirements

• Background check required within 6 months of start
• Physical exam within 1 year, signed by a physician, NP, or PA-C
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
• Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start
• Immunizations/vaccinations required:

  • TDAP within last 10 years (no declinations accepted)
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (titer or 2 vaccines required)
  • Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines required)
  • Hepatitis B (vaccine series, positive titer, or signed declination accepted)
  • Annual flu vaccination required (medical or religious exemptions require facility approval)
• COVID-19 vaccination is not required but documentation is accepted

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Weekend shifts required every other weekend
• Floating between units required within the facility
• No block scheduling available
• Facility uses Epic for charting
• Scrub colors: Royal blue and white

Additional Notes

• Candidates must provide a professional passport-style photo for badge issuance
• Several facility-specific documents and acknowledgments must be reviewed and signed prior to start (e.g., confidentiality agreement, job description, code of conduct)
• Flu vaccine exemptions require facility-specific forms and approval
• Candidates must complete required modules prior to start (instructions provided by facility)

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
