Job Description

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical/Telemetry with Behavioral Health focus
• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
• Required years of experience: 2 years in Medical-Surgical/Telemetry
• First-time travelers accepted
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Floating: Must be comfortable floating between units within scope
• Locals not accepted (50-mile radius rule applies)
• Pending license not accepted
• On-call: Not required
• Block scheduling: Not accommodated
• Return staff policy: Must be off assignment for 1 year before returning as a traveler
• Maximum of 2 contracts allowed before a 6-month break is required

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or Military only; must be renewed if expiring the month of start
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for certain units (ED, OR, PACU, Peds ED, PICU)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for L&D, FCCU, NICU units
• NIH Stroke Certification - Must be updated annually for applicable units
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam - Must be completed annually with a minimum passing score; required for specific units

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse license in North Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association

Additional Requirements

• Must complete facility-specific documents and acknowledgments prior to start (e.g., confidentiality agreement, job description review, emergency contact form)
• Photo for badge required (professional passport-style photo with solid background; no large earrings, face piercings, unnatural hair colors, or head coverings unless for religious reasons)
• Background check must be current within 6 months of start date
• Pass/fail competency testing required for certain units with remediation and cancellation policies in place
• Must comply with facility’s return staff and contract limit policies

Notes

• Prior travel experience is not required
• Guaranteed hours policy: After 2 call-off shifts in a 13-week assignment, all contracted hours are guaranteed
• RTO (Return to Office) restrictions are at manager’s discretion

This position is ideal for a Registered Nurse with at least 2 years of Medical-Surgical/Telemetry experience who is comfortable working in a behavioral health setting and floating between units. Weekend availability and adherence to strict credentialing and health requirements are essential.
