Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Cardiac Telemetry
Location: Augusta, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with experience in cardiac telemetry to provide care for adult to geriatric patients. The unit focuses on cardiac conditions including post-myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias, chest pain, and peripheral vascular disease. The role involves telemetry monitoring, EKG, Doppler, and peritoneal dialysis care.
Patient Population
- Adults to Geriatrics
- Unit size: 16 beds with an average daily census of 16
- Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5
Required Experience
- Minimum 1 year of nursing experience
- 1st time travel nurses are accepted
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Skills and Competencies
- Experience with telemetry, EKG, Doppler
- Knowledge of post-MI care, heart failure, arrhythmias, chest pain, peripheral vascular disease
- Familiarity with Epic electronic health record system (required)
- Experience with Pyxis medication system and SBAR communication
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for telemetry roles
Work Schedule and Requirements
- Weekend shifts: Approximately 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule
- Floating: Yes, within facility and scope of practice as needed
- Call: None
- Holidays: Expected to work major holidays if they fall within the assignment period (Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day)
- Return to Orientation (RTO): Maximum 7 days
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
Orientation and Compliance
- Full compliance with orientation and credentialing required to start on time
- Non-billable orientation hours depend on contract length
- Clinical screening required to determine clinical fit before final approval
Required Health and Background Documentation
- Background check completed within 30 days prior to start
- Education verification of nursing degree (can be pending with proof of processing)
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 12 months
- Immunizations or titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
- Flu vaccination or signed declination required during flu season
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days prior to start
- Annual TB questionnaire
- References: 2 clinical references required
- Skills checklist updated within 12 months
- Work history verification of most recent employer (can be pending with proof)
Additional Notes
- Color blindness testing required
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam allows up to 3 attempts; failure results in cancellation
- Candidate must review and sign code of conduct and dress/professional appearance policies prior to start
License Requirement
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia
- Telemetry experience of at least 1 year, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience caring for post-myocardial infarction (post-MI) patients
- Experience caring for heart failure patients
- Experience caring for patients with peripheral vascular disease
- Experience with peritoneal dialysis care
- Doppler experience
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
