Registered Nurse (RN) - Behavioral Health (Evenings)

Location: Grand Rapids, Michigan
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

A Registered Nurse is responsible for performing the nursing process as the basis for patient care, providing direction and oversight to other licensed and non-licensed staff. The RN demonstrates compassion, integrity, stewardship, empowerment, and professional excellence while delivering behavioral health nursing care in inpatient settings.


Key Responsibilities

  • Assess patient care needs and develop, implement, and continually reassess individualized plans of care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.
  • Provide and coordinate nursing care in collaboration with physicians for individuals and groups.
  • Assist in patient and family education, including discharge and aftercare planning.
  • Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients and staff in individual and group settings.
  • Document, report, and verify all necessary information according to policies and procedures.
  • Monitor and report any potential safety risks to physicians to prevent adverse outcomes.
  • Promote a customer-friendly environment by following quality improvement standards and maintaining professionalism.
  • Provide care to diverse patient populations in various clinical settings with a person-centered, compassionate approach.
  • Function as a clinical leader by delegating and coordinating staff assignments and promoting staff development.
  • Utilize and review patient care protocols, standards of practice, and standards of care, contributing to process improvements.
  • May train direct care staff and oversee medication and physical health activities indirectly.
  • May be responsible for scheduling, staffing, and obtaining pre-authorizations.
  • Role model organizational mission and values through professional appearance, communication, and behavior.
  • Provide spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to patients.
  • Support and promote a recovery-focused environment and person-centered approach in community residential settings.
  • Maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in required programmatic training.
  • May function as a charge nurse.

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in Michigan.
  • Minimum of 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience.

Additional Information

  • Position may offer up to 40 hours per week with potential for additional shifts (up to 48 hours), though extra shifts are not guaranteed.

  • Must uphold a recovery-focused, person-centered approach consistent with behavioral health best practices.
