Job Opportunity: Perfusionist
Location: New Orleans, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- May be assigned to an "Emergency Team" with expectations to stay onsite during emergency events or be part of relief teams.
- Call schedule includes weekdays and weekends in rotation.
- Responsibilities include:
- Adult cardiopulmonary bypass
- Ventricular assist support
- Intra Aortic Balloon Pump support
- ExtraCorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
- Auto transfusion
- Physiological monitoring
- Hemofiltration including acute dialysis
- Operation of various blood analyzers and ex-vivo organ systems
Required Qualifications
- Valid Perfusionist license in Louisiana
- Minimum 2 years of Perfusionist experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of a formal training program in Extracorporeal Technology
- Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion
Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA or RQI accepted
- National Perfusionist Certification verification required within 30 days of start
- State license verification required within 30 days of start; must be active upon submission
- Other certifications may be required based on unit assignment
Background and Health Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Education verification of highest level completed
- Sex offender search required within 30 days of start, updated monthly
- Physical exam within 12 months prior to start indicating good health
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (instant screenings not accepted)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (as applicable)
- TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 12 months, updated annually
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella – positive IGG titer or completed vaccine series
- Hepatitis B – positive antibody titer, completed vaccine series, or booster after negative titer
- Varicella – positive IGG titer, completed vaccine series, or booster after negative titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 – Apr 30)

- Skills checklist updated annually
- Resume/application required with 7 years employment history and explanations for gaps
- Photo for badge: full color, passport-style, taken within last 6 months, plain background, no obstructions or filters
Notes
- Candidates must be comfortable with emergency team assignments and potential extended stays during emergency events.
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
