Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse
Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule
- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
- 06:30 AM – 5:00 PM
- Call and holiday coverage as needed
Job Details
- Level 1 trauma center requiring 24/7 coverage, including holidays if necessary
- Must live at least 50 miles from the facility
- Adult and geriatric patient population
- Ortho unit with trauma and elective orthopedic procedures including total joint replacements, MAKO robotic knee and hip procedures, fracture management, sports medicine, and basic spinal cases (no neuromonitoring or advanced experience required)
- Circulating nurse role required
- Documentation system: Cerner
- Medication system: Omnicell
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Operating Room orthopedic experience
- Minimum 1 year of orthopedic trauma experience, with recent ortho trauma experience within the last year
- Experience working with Level 1 trauma patients, including Level 1 trauma orthopedic experience
- Completion of at least 2 prior travel assignments
- American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
- American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification issued by American Heart Association
- Tech Cert Verification - National
- State License 1 Verification
- NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Tennessee
- AHA BLS certification (AHA or ARC accepted)
- AHA ACLS certification (cannot start with this pending)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification recommended (not offered onsite)
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID)
- Background checks including standard 7-year search, FACIS Level 3, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and Tennessee Abuse Registry (within 30 days of start)
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Immunizations and titers as per facility policy: Tdap, MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
- 9-panel drug screen within 1 year of start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required year-round
- Two professional references required (travel, allied, or per diem acute care) within 3 years of start
- Employment application including licensure, certifications, education, and employment history
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams (medication/pharmacology competency with minimum passing score of 80%)
Important Notes
- Cannot be a return traveler to this specific orthopedic unit
- Must be 100% pre-closed before submission
- Experience with Hana Table preferred
- Primary vendors used: Smith & Nephew and Stryker
This position is ideal for experienced orthopedic trauma RNs with prior travel assignments who are comfortable working in a high-acuity Level 1 trauma center environment.
