Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - PICU
Location: Newark, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Primary unit: Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
- Float assignments may include Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), and potentially other units based on skill set and hospital needs (floating confirmed with traveler)
- Patient ratio approximately 1:2+
- Unit size: 19 beds
- Schedule: Every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday)
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 3 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) critical care experience, including experience within the last year
- At least one completed travel nursing assignment
- Experience with Medtronic pacemakers and telemetry monitoring
- Proficiency with BIPAP/CPAP, ventilators, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
- IV certification

Additional Requirements
- Must complete a skills checklist annually, documenting required experience and competencies
- Charting system used: EPIC
- Scrub color: Navy Blue
- Prior travel experience required (first-time travelers not accepted)
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Background check within 30 days of start, including criminal, alias, and employment history verification
- Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Respiratory medical clearance and on-site fit testing mandatory prior to start
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Completion of annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation materials
- Pass/fail competency exams including medication/pharmacology, EKG/dysrhythmia, IV therapy, and others as applicable
- References: Two within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required
- Work history verification required for New Jersey candidates (minimum 1 year prior to start, allowing 30-day gaps)

- Candidates must bring all required documentation to orientation
- Candidates with name changes must provide proof or documentation of the name change process
- Facility has specific policies regarding floating, fit testing, and personal protective equipment
- Candidates must comply with all facility-specific health and safety protocols, including latex allergy screening and color vision testing if applicable
This position is ideal for experienced PICU nurses with strong critical care and cardiac skills who have prior travel nursing experience and are ready for a 13-week assignment in a pediatric critical care setting.
