Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Midland, Texas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Description

  • Start date within the next 3-5 weeks
  • Experience needed in General, Orthopedic, Neuro, Trauma, and ENT
  • Pediatric experience preferred
  • Call required
  • Schedule is variable and will change weekly; no set days guaranteed
  • Block scheduling cannot be approved
  • Shifts may be 3x12 hours or 4x10 hours with rotating days off and call (to be discussed during interview)

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
  • Experience in General, Orthopedic (Ortho), Neurology (Neuro), Trauma, and ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) surgical specialties
  • Current ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Current NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
  • Current EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) certification
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification or competency

Certifications (must be current and valid)

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA Instructor, Provider, or RQI accepted
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – preferred for pediatric areas
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required as applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – required for ER and trauma areas
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – preferred for Labor & Delivery
  • Other certifications as applicable based on assignment area

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 10-year criminal background check required within 30 days of start, including all locations lived and worked
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start
  • State-specific background checks for Texas (DPS Criminal History, Employee Misconduct Registry, Employability Status Check) required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification and transcript/diploma required for certain specialty areas (e.g., Cath Lab, CVOR, L&D)
  • Drug screening required prior to start and additional screening onsite during orientation
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start, must be completed within 72 hours of contract signing
  • N95 Fit Test required within 1 year of start (PAPR not accepted)
  • Immunizations and titers required or documentation of immunity for:
    • TB (negative test or chest x-ray)
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or agency declination required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)

Additional Requirements

  • Candidate must be flexible with scheduling and call responsibilities
  • Must complete facility-specific documents and agreements prior to start
  • References: 2 required within 3 years of start
  • Skills checklist and competency exams required and must be updated annually or within 1 year of start as applicable
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam required as applicable

Summary

This is a travel Registered Nurse position in the Operating Room with a 16-week contract in Midland, Texas. The role requires flexibility in scheduling, call duties, and experience in multiple surgical specialties including general, ortho, neuro, trauma, and ENT. Pediatric experience is preferred. Candidates must hold a valid RN license in Texas and maintain current certifications including ACLS and BLS. Comprehensive background checks, immunizations, and health screenings are mandatory prior to start.
