Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Patient Ratios: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
- Floating: Clinician may float within scope to meet unit needs
- Unit Description:
- 13-bed inpatient adult acute medical-surgical unit
- Open 24/7
- Serves medical and surgical patients from general or family medicine service lines
- Accepts direct and new admissions from Emergency Department, post recovery, or other inpatient units
- First-time travelers: Accepted
- Local candidates: Considered on a case-by-case basis
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Specialty Experience: 2-3 years of medical-surgical nursing experience (use higher value if discrepancy)
- License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or American Red Cross accepted
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only, required for adult critical care and certain units
- Preferred Experience: Charge nurse experience preferred
Schedule & Work Conditions
- Holiday rotation required
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Local radius: 60 miles
- Block scheduling possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9)
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card
- Background checks including:
- SSN Trace
- Statewide and national criminal checks
- Sex offender registry
- FACIS 3
- Education verification (diploma/transcripts preferred)
- NURSYS license verification (RN)
- Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start
- Physical exam: Initial and annual updates required
- Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days of start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or vaccination)
- Varicella (positive titer or vaccination)
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Annual flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (flu season August-April)
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or chest x-ray if positive history
- Color blindness testing prior to start
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Competency exams required and may vary by unit
- Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed prior to start
- Clear, passport-style photo for badge required before start
Additional Notes
- Candidates must upload COVID vaccination records if available; COVID vaccination is highly preferred but not required. If declining, a vaccination declination form must be completed.
- Radiation badge required only for specific roles/units (not applicable for this position).
- References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
- Employment history verification of last 3 clinical employers required
- Parking permit available with a registration fee (details provided upon hire)
- Charting system used: EPIC
- Dress code: Solid royal blue or white top with royal blue bottoms for RNs
