Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
  • Floating: Clinician may float within scope to meet unit needs
  • Unit Description: 13-bed inpatient adult acute medical-surgical unit, open 24/7, serving medical and surgical patients with a variety of diagnoses
  • Facility Type: Level I Trauma Center, Teaching Facility, Magnet Hospital
  • Charting System: EPIC

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in South Carolina
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, with experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Experience with Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Schedule & Work Conditions

  • Holiday rotation required
  • Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis
  • Travel experience: Not explicitly required

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9)
  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID
  • Social Security Card
  • Background checks including:
    • 7-year employment and residence history
    • National and state criminal checks
    • Sex offender registry
    • Federal exclusions lists (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG)
  • Education verification (diploma/transcripts)
  • NURSYS verification for RN license
  • Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and health screenings including:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 90 days
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination
    • Hepatitis B titer or vaccination or declination
    • Seasonal flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days prior to start
  • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Medication/pharmacology competency exam
  • Color blindness test prior to start
  • Clinical references (2 required)
  • Complete employment application including all PTO, contract assignments, and agency names with no unaccounted gaps

Orientation & Facility Specifics

  • Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
  • Clear, passport-style photo required for badge
  • Possible assignment to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June-November)
  • Parking permit required with associated fees

Notes

  • Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval
  • Candidates with background issues may not be eligible for temporary licensure walk-through process
  • Radiation badge may be required for certain specialties but not for this position
  • Facility reserves the right to approve candidates with licensure or background hits
